Here’s a great video of an Internet like concept in 1969. Some particularly interesting things are the gender specific roles and the simplicity of it all. The hardware is almost comical considering how few buttons are on the machines to control the entire interface. There isn’t even a keyboard. Amazingly multiple displays are used, something that even in 2009 is somewhat of a luxury. It even has a precursor to email, nicknamed the “Home Post Office”.

Fark.com On Jeopardy
I’ve been reading Fark.com for several years now. Seeing that it was featured on Jeopardy (again) is extremely amusing. VentureBeat even managed to get a quote on it from Drew.
Here’s a very well done rendition of “Baby Got Back” performed Gilbert & Sullivan style.
Previously I’ve mentioned Jonathan Coulton’s acoustic version.
David Pogue Medley
Here’s a little gem. New York Times tech columnist David Pogue. There’s two songs nested in this video you’ll likely want to check out. Use the links below to go right to the songs and skip the talk:
- Imagine – Pogue does a little parody of John Lennon’s “Imagine”.
- My Way – Pogue does a little parody of Paul Anka’s “My Way” (known by most for being performed by Frank Sinatra). For the record Paul Anka is still dead to me after his Nirvana cover.
There’s also the music video for the “My Way” parody “I want an iPhone“.
For those who don’t know, in a previous live David Pogue spent some time on Broadway on the music side of things.
Nice way to start off MacWorld week right? I’ve got another for later in the week.

St. Maarten Airport Fun
A week ago I came back from St. Maarten, an island known for it’s weather and beaches. There are a few ways to tell a good beach from a great one:
- Clean beaches.
- Evidence that topless tanning is allowed.
- Signs like the one to the left warning you of death by heavy metal.
A beach with an active runway for an international airport makes for a good time. So much so I got to this beach a several times. Equipped with a camera phone I took some video’s of the fun. The video’s are slightly grainy since it was taken on a phone, and a bit shaky since the jet blast could be pretty strong at times.
For the record, sand does go through clothing at that speed. It was strong enough that I wasn’t able to watch a takeoff live as I had to turn my head and close my eyes. Only afterward could I watch the video replay.
Noteworthy
Boeing 747 takeoff (can’t even keep the camera up).
St. Maartin
Took some photos and video of my trip to Saint Martin. The videos in particular aren’t the best quality, but quite fun to watch.

Also managed to shoot some video with my cell phone

Gmail Theater
Cool video by Google on why to use Gmail. Intentionally very cheesy. Gotta love it.

Original Star Wars Trailer
This is the original Star Wars Trailer. Interesting to see and contrast against the modern trailers. Interestingly it was back in 1999 that most of us saw our first movie trailer online (Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace) hosted by Apple in QuickTime. Now several years later the predecessor (age wise, not plot wise) is on YouTube. Who among us would have conceived that in 1999?
