Talk To The Moose Parody

This video requires a little explanation for overseas readers. GAP ran a commercial titled “Talk To The Moose” in the US during the 2009 holiday season that was notable for featuring several young girls dancing and singing what became an Earworm for some people thanks to a fair amount of air time.

I’m not sure if the cute factor or the Earworm was the marketing approach.

The side effect of a commercial being memorable for any reason is that these days we get parodies thanks to the Internet! I’m pretty sure this one was filmed with alcohol nearby, but perhaps that’s what makes it so great. The painful looking flip is what puts it over the top. I’ve got a few side-by-sides because despite being so poor (in a funny way), it’s actually a surprisingly pretty good parody.

It’s Like False Advertising For Your Butt

Booty Pop

I rarely get into advertising or underwear on this blog but I had to share this one. It’s like a Miracle Bra… but for your butt.

I wonder if this booty POP trend will stick, or die quickly. I also wonder if it makes that popping sound when you put it on.

I’m amazed how quickly this stuff can get around the web. I’m pretty sure this is what Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn had in mind when working on TCP/IP.

The Muppets: Bohemian Rhapsody

Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody

I’ve mentioned a few cool videos from Jim Henson shows. The Muppets covering Bohemian Rhapsody is especially awesome. Enjoy.

Also noteworthy is it’s one of the first 1080p videos on YouTube that I’ve seen. Looks like it’s done via MP4 (not sure Flash supports anything else at that quality).

Ares I Rocket Test

Ares I Rocket Test

NASA posted some video of the first stage of the Ares I rocket being test fired out in the desert. 22 million horse power. As powerful as this rocket is, it doesn’t compare to Ares IV and of course the Saturn V.

I get the impression you don’t want to be anywhere near the business end of this thing when it’s lit:

During the test the flame exited the rocket motor out of a nozzle at about mach 3 and burned for approx. 123 seconds and the temperature of that flame approached approx. 4500 F. This is approx two-thirds the temperature of the sun’s surface. At this temperature steel does more than melt, it boils. And sand that was placed around just aft of the rocket motor got hot enough to actually turn to glass

I Don’t Want To Live On The Moon

I Don't Want to Live on the Moon

By far one of the better Jim Henson songs ever on the show, this one dating form . This was a version with Aaron Neville done after Jim Henson’s death. If you listen carefully you can tell it’s the same voice track mixed with Aaron Neville’s vocals.

Ok, enough with the retro videos for now.

The Count Censored

If you’re a member of any of the Sesame Street generations, meaning you were a child in 1969 or later (a group including the president) you may want to ignore this post. That is if you value those pure innocent memories. Don’t blame me for ruining your childhood 😉 .

Otherwise, watch the video linked above and enjoy. Here’s a bonus video featuring the count censored.

The Muppets Turn The World Around

20090521_harry_belafonte_muppets_turn_the_world_around

Here’s a video of Harry Belafonte’s appearance on The Muppet Show. This is generally considered one of the more memorable episodes. He also did The Banana Boat Song but Turn the World Around seems to be the one that people most remember. According to Wikipedia it was reportedly one of Jim Henson’s favorites.

Perhaps at some point in the future I’ll revisit the Muppets with some more classic clips I find on the Internet. It’s a nice break from some of the more technical stuff found on this blog.
