Bender has a webpage

Bender, my server, has a webpage. Note that’s not hosted on Bender, as Bender is behind a firewall.

MRTG and System Status aren’t updating hourly as they should. I’ll try to get that fixed soon. For now, I just push the update myself every so often (NOT hourly ;-)).

Programming Butt Kicking

Sunday and Monday were great programming days. Got tons of bugs fixed on the MacVillage.net CMS. Started Indexing, that’s now done (partly). Also got some limited search functionality. And tons and tons of stupid bugs, and odd functionality fixed. More than I noted in my change log. A lot more. It was good time. Some code cleanup, removed some bogus code, and consolidated a few things…. all was good in happy town.

Then this Computer Science & Programming Lab came around. And I feel like I took a shower in a Turkish prison, and dropped the soap.

It hurts. I’m tired, and I want sleep. And I want a decent grade. And this internal conflict might be the war to end all wars.

Spam Filtering is starting now on my server, so my email should be cleaning on my server, rather than client side, meaning my CPU should be free a bit more. A great thing.

Server Slow

This server has been occasionally getting slow. Perhaps networking, perhaps load. If anyone finds it to be fast or slow, leave a comment. If it’s slow, a traceroute would be nice.

Digging through the server

In my efforts to rebuild MacVillage.net, today I started sifting through the tons of files on the server. Boy was this a trip to the past few years.

Also found a lot of personal stuff that I threw on the site in hidden directories. Including stuff I’m not sure if they were good times, or things I want to forget ;-). I also found my parody website “University of Bob”, mocking schools in general.

Tons of other stuff. I got to spend some time over the next several weeks cleaning up. Perhaps I will post what I find funny.

While on the topic, I’m going slower than I would like in reviving the site, but it is moving. The news system is starting to come together, so are the structural changes. Authentication has been almost completely upgraded for some time. It’s just a few things that I still need to enable.

To sleep, and get some more done tomorrow.

Server Move

Server’s been moved to a new Data Center. Now with Sprint connectivity. Should notice it’s now a bit more zippy. Sprint is much faster than Verio.

Pings are looking great. Hurray for more speed.

Samba 3.0 is out

Samba 3.0 has been released.

Wonder if it will compile on OS X 10.2.6? Will Apple be including it in 10.3? Perhaps 10.3 Server?

I love Samba, makes my fileserver (bender) run perfectly. I can’t complain about the quality of this product. And the price is a bit high for free open source, but I can manage ;-).

Good day for Samba.

Blog finally up and running

Due to a server move at the end of April/early May, the blog was broke due to an inconsistency between the version of Berkley DB on the old and new host. Now running on mySQL, it’s back up and running!
