NVU 1.0 PR

Glazou needs some credit on his accomplishment for a 1.0 PR release. It looked pretty solid on the Mac. The one thing I noted was the prefs window appeared slightly to small (horizontally) cutting off a few things, and the same for the “ping us so we can count our users” window.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, go grab some bits. It’s a pretty solid product, and not even 1.0.

About Time

About time. The fact a bill filled with so much “common sense” even needs to be proposed just shows how many morons exist in this country. You’d think someone who feels their religion prohibits them from performing their duties would choose another career. You don’t see Hindu’s refusing to serve Big Mac’s™ because they feel the cow is sacred. They just realized being a burger flipper conflicts with their faith. Are they smarter? Well yea.

A Boring Day

Spent most of the afternoon working on my Principles of System Design Project (crossing another off the todo list).

Also hacked up a really cool toy that you will see hopefully in the next couple of days.

Next up is a History of American Art paper.

Round Two

I beat all the press to the first of a new type of company. I’m still pretty early at this one.

Round Two. Bart Decrem is at it again.

Best of luck to him.

Hard Head

At the Yankee game today Pavano got hit in the head with a rather hard hit. Couldn’t see at the time that it was to the head though. They never replayed it on the screen (a sign it was a bad hit). Saw Joe Torre run out rather quick, so you knew it wasn’t good. How he managed to not only survive, but stay conscious is just a miracle. A shot like that (in excess of 100 MPH by estimates) to the head can cause death. He didn’t even hit the ground. The Bambino’s curse may be over, but he’s still looking out for the Yanks.

Mac Mini is online

I got my Mac Mini back today. Bliss. Airport Extreme/Bluetooth card for $99+tax. I decided to officially name the system “mini me”. I’m having fun already, though I got to get some sleep, and go back to school tomorrow… looking forward to the next time I get to play with my mini. πŸ˜‰

Fun with Todo Lists week of 10/11

Every so often it becomes necessary to make a todo list public so I actually feel motivated. Without further delay:

  • Finally write that cheesy International Business Paper (4 pages double spaced, on pretty much anything) [4/14/05]
  • Finally write that History of American Art Paper (no clue how long, more complex, and really boring)… this is long term, not this week.
  • Commit a few reporter patches (simplify UI, figure out the rest of localization/prefs)
  • Get Mozilla building on my Thinkpad… this has been the most frustrating experience ever [4/16/05]
  • Start work on a Prototype UI for my Principles of Systems Design Project… may be long term. [4/14/05]
  • Ping Asa for some icon love, and see if the last patch I’m working on will make mozPod 0.1 (yea, I’m late again). [4/14/05]
  • More work on project aquarius
  • Add Firefox counter to blog (added 4/14/2005) [4/14/05]
  • A special little project πŸ˜‰ Those who know me well will be surprised I didn’t do this long ago. More info coming soon.
  • Another special little project (added 4/11/2005) [4/13/05]

Mac Mini Getting Wired Up

Called the Apple Store this morning and they got a “limited quantity” of Mac Mini Airport Kits after all my waiting. Went there today and there were 2. So I got one and they took mini-me to get it installed. It should be done by tomorrow. Ends up being $99 + tax, installation included. Not a bad deal actually. $99 isn’t a bad deal for install included. Done by an Apple Certified Technician.

According to Apple Insider:

The upgrade kit will be available from an AASP and will include an adapter mezzanine board, a Bluetooth board, a AirPort Extreme card, and antennas for both AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth modules. The kit is not user-installable and must be installed by an authorized technician. According to documentation, the mini’s Bluetooth module is located on its own USB bus.

When configured with internal AirPort and Bluetooth modules, the antennas for AirPort and Bluetooth are located in the top of the Mac mini. More specifically, the AirPort antenna is located in the top, rear left-hand corner above the mini’s power button, while the Bluetooth antenna is located in the top, front right-hand corner of the computer.

Due to the placement of the antennas, users who stack other computers or displays on top of the Mac mini may experience reduced wireless reception. For the best wireless performance, Apple suggests that users do not rest anything on top of the Mac mini, or stack other Mac mini’s on top of one another.

So I should get it back tomorrow. Just in time to go back to school. Oh well, it’s something to look forward to all week ;-).

Daylight Savings Extended?

I’m curious what the tech community thinks about extending Daylight Savings Time. Daylight Savings has long been a pain in any developers side as it varies depending on timezone (and sometimes country). It’s the reason why many webApps stick to GMT or UTC, rather than allow users to customize to their own timezone. No matter what it seems a few people don’t get the correct time unless you use GMT. Will this be another y2k?
