Down with Site Finder

I’ve said it before. Site Finder sucks. It’s a violation of standards, and privacy. Not to mention business ethics (hijacking web traffic with a monopolistic position to increase revenue at a cost of user privacy).

It may come back.

Here’s to hoping Verisign goes out of business.

Mozilla Knowledge Base

I’m pledging to average a minimum of 2 KB articles per week to the new Mozilla Knowledge Base, which resolves bug 229502.

I’ve already done a quick one on installing Mozilla PalmSync for Thunderbird.

I figure if I sit down and write 2 a week, over a year that 104 articles. If a 10 people held the same commitment (with a few weeks vacation, we break 1000 articles! Just between 10 people.

So I urge some others who have some free time to do the same. Just 2 a week is all it takes.

If you decide to make the pledge, either blog it, and ping this post, or leave a comment. Lets see if I can get 10 new friends.

Firefox 0.8 Released

Firefox

I believe enough is said.

I’m not particularly fond of the name change, though I guess it was necessary. After a stream of good press for “Firebird”, this will be a step back, but hopefully 2 steps forward for every 1 step back.

New logo is spiffy. Would be nice to see them link back to about:credits as seamonkey did. Lots of credit over the years to all who contributed.

Janet Jackson most queried

According to this CNN article, Janet Jacson’s Superbowl stunt was the #1 Query.

Being that I posted on the topic, I took a bit of that traffic. Held up alright, no problems. But it was evident in particular for a few hours the other day. It’s amazing how quickly search engines can update their index to reflect this website. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, back to work.

Changing SMTP Port in Mozilla

As ISP’s and webhosts are starting to offer alternative ports for SMTP, some may ask how to change the port in Mozilla/Thunderbird. So here is a rundown step by step (don’t worry, it’s really easy).

Janet Jackson half off at Half Time

That might be the best picture taken by the AP in years. It completely captures the moment. From that evil look on Justin Timberlake’s face… to the sheer embarrassment of Janet Jackson’s face. Timberlake looks like he’s about to run out and molest a dozen cheerleaders.

Well, another Jackson who feels the need to expose themselves in sight of children:

An Entertaining Article (ESPN)

Quote of the month:

“I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl,” Timberlake said in a statement. “It was not intentional and is regrettable.”
– Justin Timberlake

Yes, that’s right. A “malfunction”. A cell phone can malfunction. A server can malfunction. A stage costume gets ripped by sexually motivated hands.

Can anyone explain why such an elaborate nipple decoration is needed with such a costume? Nose ring’s at least are visable. But why decorate what you don’t intend to show? It’s like putting down an expensive wood floor in your garage, then cover it in concrete.

Sidenote: Isn’t it a little crazy that a breast is creating so much buzz? Not to long ago, a woman showing their ankle was inappropriate. Created some controversy at first, but people got over it. You’d think we would have matured by now no? I guess not, traffic to this page is way up today thanks to this post. And interestingly, it’s all traffic from American ISP’s, despite being an International headline. Guess other countries are more mature.

Nipplegate, it’s wonderful that this is the new conspiracy in America.

Geek 2.0

This guy is even more of a geek than me.

Anyone who names their child “Mozilla” and proves it to me (a hoax works, provided it’s well done), will get their kids picture and a link to their website (if you name a kid Mozilla, at least make it a website too, and make sure it validates). Here on my website.

I’m serious. Anyone feel like it, go ahead πŸ˜‰

Transcript of the discussion with the spouse over naming the child (and you suggest “Mozilla”) is also welcome. Text, MP3, MP4, AAC, acceptable. Email before attaching files so I don’t think they are viruses.
