Viruses

W32.Sobig.F is getting very annoying. So is W32.Blaster.Worm.

Why can’t people just take proper precautions:

  1. Firewall. I have 3, Win XP firewall/OS X Firewall, Sygate Personal Firewall (laptop), and a Netgear Hardware firewall (w/ SPI). All you really need is 1.
  2. Virus Scan
  3. Secure up to date software. At the very least, update Windows. Use a good email client like Mozilla.

Viruses are a real pain in the butt. And avoidable for all but the first few to get infected.

100k G5’s

Apple announced that 100k G5’s have been ordered on Monday.

Now that Apple is making that much… they should send me a freebie just to say “thanks for loving Mac OS X” πŸ˜‰

In other news, Bender (file server) is still running after 48 hours. A good sign. Lets see if it can beat the previous record of 40 days of service running Mac OS X 10.2. I doubt it as 10.2.7 will be released soon and require a restart… but after that, we will see.

Less and less productive

As I play more Operation Iraqi freedom, I get less and less work done in the evenings… not good for me.

On the plus side, I’m starting to learn my way around Iraq by air.

F/A-18 Hornet Operation Iraqi Freedom

RULES!!!!

Damn this game is fun. I don’t think I’ll be seeing the light of day anytime soon. I can’t wait until I get up to speed on all the changes since the last version, and I can start on some missions.

Nice graphics, nice game play, good price. How can I complain?

Not much else to blog about. This is all that’s good.

Lights Out Pt. 2

CNN has a nice little article titled Iraqis’ top 10 tips for enduring blackout in the heat. Definitely worth a read. Funny, yet informative. Suddenly, for about a day, NYC and Iraq could really relate.

Took the day off. Got Korean/Japanese food (good stuff). So it was a surprise 3 day weekend. Hurray! πŸ˜€

Interesting that outage may be due to one line.

Some other linkage:

Lights out

Working yesterday… and the power went out. Throughout the IT floor, all I could hear was cursing, and the sound of people slamming their keyboards. Lots of work was lost. Moments later, forced to run down the stairs (evacuate the building) and out the building into the chaos on the streets. Seeing a few people get tapped by speeding cars (didn’t appear to be hurt)… Decided not to step into the streets. Went into the main building, and back upstairs (STAIRS). Got fed by the cafe with “emergency rations (namely HΓ€agen-Dazs iced cream), and hung out. Even found emergency power in the mail room (with plans to use it to watch TV). Then got a car home late last night.

I hope they hang whoever messed up causing us to lose power.

“Time Square without the lights… is just another street.”

OS X 10.2 for my server

Going to install Mac OS X 10.2 for my server this weekend (just arived). Should be interesting. What’s neat is I ordered it via Apple with ground shipping… came overnight. Quickness.

If only F/A-18 Hornet Operation Iraqi Freedom came so quick from J&R now… can’t wait to shoot up some Iraqi MIG’s. πŸ˜€

Movabletypezilla.

Ben Goodger discussed the idea of making an XUL based Blog posting window.

I’m currently working on it. Can be seen here. Far from done, but a great way to learn XUL!

Quite impressive what one can do so easily. XUL is pretty cool.
