The Wonder Years aired 88-93, was set 68-73. A modern Wonder Years would be set in 1991.

I’d personally love to see a modern Wonder Years set in 1991. Queen’s These Are the Days of Our Lives would be the most appropriate intro given the year, but I’d prefer Milli Vanilli or MC Hammer. I’d also nominate Gilbert Gottfried for the narration. Steve Martin if Gilbert turns it down. The Gulf War and Somalia Conflict would obviously replace Vietnam. I see this being very workable.

According to Gizmodo the original Super Soaker 50 is back! Apparently the only real change they made is the reservoir is no longer removable (the original screwed in). Perhaps that avoids the inevitable leaky gasket that caused problems in the original guns. That limited the pressure that you could build up in the older gun once it got past a certain age. I guess it’s similar to the M16A2 upgrade to the M16A1.

I think the most surprising thing (than the original being 20 years old) is that it’s supposedly going to be available for $15. That’s not to terrible in the world of overpriced “retro” toys.

Here’s a great video of an Internet like concept in 1969. Some particularly interesting things are the gender specific roles and the simplicity of it all. The hardware is almost comical considering how few buttons are on the machines to control the entire interface. There isn’t even a keyboard. Amazingly multiple displays are used, something that even in 2009 is somewhat of a luxury. It even has a precursor to email, nicknamed the “Home Post Office”.
