Even though I am no fan of Microsoft, they make excellent hardware. My Microsoft USB keyboard plugs in any USB ports on either a PC and Mac and is recognised no matter what OS it is running. It works perfectly with FreeBSD on my PC too. Microsoft seems to use the standard USB HID protocol for keyboard -- not sure what the heck Logitech are using if they need drivers. Microsoft doesn't even include drivers with their Keyboard anymore -- any OS supporting USB will pick it up with no problem, and many BIOSes can provide USB-to-PS/2 emulation too.
